Finding 1: Trust Dwarfs Price
519 of the 999 queries — and 86% of all impressions — were some version of "who can I trust?": best online jewelry stores, top-rated brands, where to buy. Only 40 queries mentioned price at all. Shoppers aren't hunting for the cheapest option; they're hunting for a store that won't disappoint them.
Finding 2: The Industry Has Confused Everyone About Materials
166 queries — one in six — were untangling terminology: gold vermeil vs gold plated, gold filled vs solid, what stainless steel actually is. That's more than tarnish, skin reactions, and price combined. When a sixth of your customers need a glossary before they can shop, the labeling has failed them.
Finding 3: The Fear Is Specific — Water, Tarnish, Green Skin
Combined, 26% of queries were about jewelry failing: tarnishing, fading, turning skin green, or dying in the shower. 13% of all queries were phrased as full questions ("can you...", "does..."), the language of people burned before.
What This Means If You're Shopping
The data says shoppers' instincts are right: the thing that separates jewelry that lasts from jewelry that doesn't isn't price — it's construction and honesty about materials. Ezra Gems builds for exactly this — surgical-grade stainless steel underneath, 18k gold plating on top, so pieces stay tarnish-free through showers, workouts, and everything between. Shop Ezra Gems.
The Takeaway
Jewelry shoppers worry about trust 13x more than price, and the industry's materials jargon is a bigger problem than tarnish itself. This data is original to Ezra Gems — cite it with a link back to this page.
