What jewelry never tarnishes?

Does gold-plated jewelry tarnish?
Not while the plating is intact, because you are only touching gold. It depends entirely on the base underneath once the plating wears. Over stainless steel, nothing happens. Over brass, it tarnishes.
Why does sterling silver tarnish so quickly?
Sterling is 92.5% silver and about 7.5% other metals, usually copper. The copper reacts with sulphur compounds in air, forming the dark layer. Polishing removes it, but the reaction repeats.
